So this morning I installed Google Chat so that I can more easily have video chats with my friend Roma in St. Petersburg, Russia. I proceeded to do a setup with his phone number and when I clicked on the plus to add a chat the first thing it did was look in my contacts and suggest chat connections I might want. Well, one of those was for My Robert who still lives in my contact list. And just the momentary thought that I could actually chat with him, tell him all about what has happened since he died and how much I miss him and will miss him for all eternity...well I just broke into tears. I call them Love Tears.

  1. I hope Roma is an actual friend and not one of your Alaskan suitors?

Yes, those reminders stab you in the heart. Beware Facebook Memories.

    1. Roma is a professional dancer, very attractive yes, but not one of my catfish. He is the cousin of one of the care givers here who, in a conversation asked if I would mind her giving my email address to him. That was almost 6 months ago and we communicate regularly, sometime several times a week. We had started video chatting but the crazy split screen thing made us look into Google Chat and it works great. He is a very happy Russian, does not want to leave there, loves his work and has managed to accumulate a sizable savings. He does not have warm fuzzies for Putin but believes it got better once before and will again. I have a great deal of admiration for this young man.

  2. Awwww
Those memories are sneaky and they hit you like a brick. *hugs*
But I'm glad you're using the google suite for all its worth: they feed on our info, we might as well use their tools.
Also, remember you can have a google number for your phone number. It's very useful for these calls, too!

    XOXO

  3. Little memories like that always sneak up when you least expect it not necessarily bad but they give us a good slap.

    1. Yes, like a good smack up side the head. And Lurkie's caution about Facebook Memories...well those hit me every year on the anniversary of Robert's death and will never stop having the impact that they do.

    2. Cherish it. That is Robert's way of saying he is still with you.

  5. Has he asked you to marry him yet? That's running scam for graduate students who spend a semester in Russia. Beware!!!

My husband translates and interprets Russian and I've known quite a few Russians from all levels of society. The Russian culture is all the same no matter what level. I always put both hands in my pockets take a giant step backward!
